Tamang Heritage Trail with Langtang Trek
Trekking in Langtang Region, This trekking area is located about 30 kilometers toward the north of Kathmandu. Trekking along this unbeaten trail is a new experience for the trekkers experiencing the beauty of this mountain region with the culture of local people. You trek through Tamang villages with its life, culture and crafts which have remained untouched from the beginning of the settlement. The trekkers will receive hearty felicitation by the locals rich in their distinct costumes, architecture of their mountain houses and ancient monasteries. It offers you wilderness experience through beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat meadows and rhododendron forests.
The main inhabitants of this area are believed to be the descendants of Tibetans from Kerung who intermingled with Tamang of the Helambu area. Tamang communities are generally found on higher elevations with the peasants engaging in shifting cultivation and extraction of forest products. They are mainly sheep and yak herders but grow some hardy grains and vegetables. Their daily life activities include raising livestock, agriculture and trade with Kerung in Tibet. They also make baskets and mats from mountain bamboo.
During this trek you can enjoy the dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7245m.), Langtang Kerung, Chimse Danda ridge crossed by Ganjala Pass (5122m.), Dorje Lakpa (6989m.), Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Paldor peak, Shringi Himal, Manaslu and Sanjen Himal ranges. In addition you find over 70 glaciers of varying sizes and high altitude lakes including Gosainkunda, Pravatikunda, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda.
The trail starts either from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, Timure, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Langtang valley and Kyangjin Gompa. Goljung, Gatlang and Langtang are traditional Tamang villages culminating cultural features. The visit to beautiful local Tamang monastery and the holy Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang adds exhilaration to your trekking.
ITINERARY
Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu International Airport, More Than Mountain staffs meet and transfer to Hotel on BB basis.
Day 02: Kathmandu full day Tour start from Boudhhanath, Pashupatinath, Patan City and Swoyambhunath
Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1467 m.) via Trishuli (Nuwakot) takes about eight hours. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche.
Day 04: Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2238m.) via Goljung takes about six hours. This day you walk through village. The cultural show at Goljung and Gatlang makes your trekking a memorable one. Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is a Tamang settlement. One can visit a Tamang monastery and beautiful Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang.
Day 05: Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani (2607m.) takes about three hours.
On the way you enjoy sightseeing of Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. At Tatopani, you can take hot bath in natural hot. It is believed that taking a dip into this spring would heal you from your aches and pains.
Day 06: Trek from Tatopani to Thuman (2338m.) via Nagthali (3165m.) takes about five hours. You trek via Bimthang. The panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, Sanjen ranges can be distinctly experienced from Nagthali.
Day 07: Trek from Thuman to Briddim (2229m.) via Lingling takes about seven hours. You can experience village life of Briddim. Moreover you can enjoy cultural show performed by community members. Briddim is a Tibetan Buddhist village located in the bosom of Langtang Himal. Around 43 houses are spread in Z shape. Most of the houses are made up of stone and have roofs of splitshake.
Day 08: Trek from Briddim to Lama Hotel (2470m.) takes about six hours.
You walk through Briddim village while observing the local lifestyle and culture and interacting with the locals. Later on you find that the settlement of Lama Hotel is located on the banks of Langtang River and surrounded by lush forests and mountains.
Day 09: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang (3430m.) takes about five hours. En route you are quite mesmerized by the beautiful views of the Langtang range. You can also experience and make observation of Tibetan settlements.
Day 10: Trek from Langtang to Kyangjin (3870m.) takes about three hours.
This day you can see the glaciated valley of Kyangjin on the lap of Langtang Lirung and surrounded by snowy mountains.
Day 11: Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa and excursion in and around. This is day to rest and explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks.
Day 12: Trek from Kyangjin to Lama Hotel (2470m.) takes about six hours.
From Kyangjin you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.
Day 13: Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2130m.) takes about six and half hours. You continue retracing your steps some of the way to Thulo Syabru, but then branch left up a steep path through forest. An undulating path brings you to this fascinating village where each house is set above its neighbor, in a long line up the very crest of the ridge.
Day 14: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (3330m) takes about five hours. From Thulo Syabru it is a steep climb through forests of oak, fir and rhododendron to the top of a ridge. From here it is only a short descent to Sing Gompa.
Day 15: Trek from Sing Gompa to Dhunche (2030 m.) takes about four hours.
You trek downhill all the way to Ghatte Khola (stream) passing forest, a small village Dimsa and terraces. Now you trek over levelled path along Ghatte Khola (stream) till Dhunche.
Day 16: Drive from Dhunche to Kathmandu takes about eight hours. You drive through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Kathmandu. Arriving Kathmandu transfer to hotel on BB basis.
Day 17: Kathmandu free day
Day 18: International departure.....
