Gorkha area trek

For a short time, rougly 1559-1769 Gorkha, ruled by the shah Kings, was one of the most important kingdoms in the central Himalayas after those of the Kathmandu valley. The people of gorkha and surrounding villages are of gurungs, Magar and chhetri / Brahman ethnic / caste groups. The actual town is mainly inhabited by Newar traders and shopkeepers (originally from Kathmandu valley) as are all towns in central hills of Nepal.

Gorkha Himal Trek

This trek was officially opened to tourist in 1991, but mountaineering expeditions have had long access to the area. In 1950 a party led by H.W. Tillman trekked from Pupinala trekking, trekking in rupinala, nepal rupinala trekking, trekking in manaslu region, Thonje to Bimtang and col. Jimmy Roberts crossed the Larkya La looking for an interesting mountain to climb. Manaslu( 8163m) was attempted by Japanese Expeditions every year from 1952 until 1956 when the first ascent was made. Having become known as “Japanese Mountain” much of the information about the area was available in Japanese. The Japanese continued to dominate the climbing scene of Manaslu until 1971.

Gorkha Himal Trekking (Lower Route)

This trek is to be specially done during the month of late September and early October due to harvesting time. This area looks beautiful as it is adorned by the rice plants. This route has the attraction of lower altitudes and avoids the extreme elevation gains/losses common to other treks in Nepal.
